14 Years of precision craftsmanship

WHY BIGHEAD?

(the company’s photo taken 14 years ago)

The name BIGHEAD is more than a label. It draws inspiration from the archetype of the Chief, symbolising clarity, leadership, and a deep harmony with nature.

That balance is what we strive for.

Over a decade ago, we looked around and realized something was missing. The world had become loud, digital, and disconnected. We saw that people had lost their primal tether to nature. We were tired of the “fast” life, and we knew others were too.

We didn’t just want to sell tents. What we wanted is to create spaces for healing. Spaces where people could retreat, listen to the wind, and find that inner quiet again and reconnect with something essential.

Today, whether for a glamping resort, a meditation retreat, or a private sanctuary, we design and build environments where that reconnection becomes possible.

The people behind the canvas

We are a husband-and-wife team, bringing two distinct yet perfectly complementary disciplines to every tents we create.
Alenka
The master of the craft
Most people see fabric as a flat surface. She sees it in 3D shapes. She does not simply sew. She shapes.
Her relationship with craft began early. At five, she held her first needle. By twelve, she was already working with demanding clients with people who expected precision, presence, and results. What they received was more than fit. It was transformation.
Because Alenka does not only shape fabric to the body. She shapes how it is experienced.
Every piece begins in the mind. The three-dimensional shape is turned, drawn, and cut in the mind before the first cut is made.
This level of control is why her work has been trusted in environments where performance and durability must coexist with visual perfection. Where materials must move under stress, yet remain visually appealing.
Decades of experience, spanning technical textiles, delicate fabrics, and complex cuts have built a level of precision that is rare.
Alenka does not follow patterns. She defines them.
She works with instinct, but verifies with discipline. She identifies imperfections before they emerge. Every detail is considered, tested, and resolved.
This is not volume production. This is craftsmanship that goes into every product.
Borut
The visionary & engineer
If Alenka is precise in designing textile cuts, Borut is precise in the final execution.
He is a visionary. But grounded in reality. Where ideas often remain abstract, Borut brings them into the physical world. Structured. Calculated. Built.
More than fourteen years ago, he stood in a field in Germany and saw a tipi. Not as an object but as a system. Not as a tent but as a possibility.
At that moment, the company BIGHEAD was born.
Borut operates at the intersection of concept and final construction. He translates ideas into finished products through planning, engineering, and execution. He calculates load paths, material behaviour, and real-world application. Nothing is left to assumption.
He builds systems. He resolves complexity. He delivers outcomes. He is one of the few who can bring an idea to final implementation.
From early-stage concept to final installation, he ensures that what is imagined becomes real: functional, durable, and precise.
Designing on paper is one thing. Real-world execution is another. He knows how to bring both together.
What you see on the website is the result of his design, planning, and execution. He follows the principle of “GO BIG or GO HOME” His precision is evident in both drawing and execution. If you create something, do it superbly.

Our workshop

In an era of mass production and automated assembly lines, we chose a different path.

For over 14 years, our workshop has focused on a single discipline: crafting authentic, durable tipi tents.

We do not stockpile generic inventory. We do not import finished products to rebrand them. Every BIGHEAD tipi is cut, sewn, and finished in our European workshop.

No shortcuts. Only quality. Our principle is simple: quality requires time.

Because each fabric cut is made by hand, we do not pursue volume. Every project is treated as an individual commission. This approach allows us to inspect every metre of fabric and every line of stitching with precision.

The Intersection of art and industry

Tradition alone is not enough to achieve true quality. It requires consistent effort, built on experience and continuous refinement. We combine the soul of craftsmanship with the precision of industrial technology.

  • The Machinery:
We use top-tier industrial sewing machines capable of driving heavy-duty needles through multiple layers of dense canvas with accuracy and consistency.
  • The Technique:
Critical stress points: the apex door frame, and peg loops are reinforced with double-layer construction to ensure structural durability under load.
  • Sewing thread:
We use SunUV® Protection thread. It’s a waxed, impregnated, and engineered for long-term resistance to UV degradation. While standard cotton threads deteriorate over time, our stitching is designed to endure prolonged exposure to the external influences of the weather.

Materials sourced in Europe

We believe in total transparency. You cannot build a premium product from sub-standard raw materials. All our fabrics are developed and manufactured within the European Union. We do not use materials from unregulated markets.

Our mission

At BIGHEAD, we invite people to choose a different path. One that helps them reconnect with nature on a deeper, more primal level.

A BIGHEAD tipi is not just a tent. It is a place where sleep becomes deeper, conversations last longer, and silence feels natural.

Our slogan reflects what we stand for: be exceptional, be noble, be brave.

Build something extraordinary

We invite you to create something meaningful and share it with the world.
Let others experience what you have built.

Together, we can lead, inspire, and grow.

Our history

Over the past 14 years, we have built countless tipis.

More importantly, we have helped to realize many projects.

We have partnered in the development of glamping sites across Europe—supporting clients from concept to execution. These are not theoretical ideas, but operational businesses delivering real value.

We understand that a standing wooden structure is not just a product. It is an asset.

That is why we approach every project with a combination of creativity, discipline, and practical planning. The goal is not only to build something beautiful, but something that performs: operationally, financially, and over time.

Mastery through doing

We are not perfect and we do not pretend to be. We are craftsmen, not machines. Like anyone who pushes boundaries, we have made mistakes. The difference is that we learn from them.

True expertise is not theoretical. It is earned in the field: through repetition, problem-solving, and years of hands-on work.

As the old wisdom says:

“There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.”

At BIGHEAD, we have walked it. We understand the terrain and we know how to guide you through it.

Challenge us with your vision

We are builders by nature. We do not avoid complexity we engage with it.

If you need a custom product, an unconventional form, or something that has not been done before, bring it to us. We are not constrained by standard models or rigid systems.

If it can be designed, built, or sewn, we will find a way to create it.
