A sanctuary for imagination and focus
We especially recommend the tipi for schools and camps.
It works well as a shared space for workshops, meetings or quiet activities.

A Space for learning and growth
Create a dedicated environment for focus, creativity, and development. A BIGHEAD tipi is more than a shape; it is a protective space where children feel safe to explore.
Why It matters?
Conventional classrooms are defined by rigid walls and sharp corners. Energy meets these surfaces and stops. Harsh artificial lighting can contribute to stress and overstimulation.
A tipi changes this dynamic:
The circular form allows energy to move naturally, creating a space that feels protective without being restrictive. The canvas filters daylight into a warm, diffused glow, reducing visual stress and fostering a calm atmosphere. This supports emotional regulation and sustained attention.
The result:
For schools, nurseries, and families, a tipi becomes a dedicated space for calm, creativity, and grounded learning. An environment where children can focus, explore, and develop with ease.
Key features:
- Diffused natural light:
The canvas creates a warm glow. It removes the glare of harsh artificial lights. - Circular floor plan:
Everyone sits in a circle of equal importance. This improves eye contact and connection. - Acoustic dampening:
The shape reduces visual noise and echoes. It acts as a safe harbor for quiet time. - Vertical space:
The poles draw the eye upward. This expands a child’s sense of infinite possibility. - Conflict resolution friendly:
There are no corners to retreat into. The space encourages open communication.
Who is this for?
- Schools and nurseries:
For creative workshops, collaborative learning, reading nooks, group tasks and challenges or “circle time.” - SEN coordinators:
A perfect low-stimulation safe space for children with sensory processing disorders. - Camps:
A shared hub for group tasks and collaborative learning.
It is a space that encourages connection and offers a different way of working with children.
Find calm in your canvas tipi
Practical applications for schools and camps.
Step inside and leave the noise behind. The light here is warm and soft. You feel safe and sheltered, yet still connected to nature. It’s the perfect place to rest and reset.
Why children need tipi space?
Modern life is loud and bright. Classrooms buzz with fluorescent lights and echoing voices. Playgrounds hum with constant activity. For many children, this sensory overload becomes overwhelming. They need a break from the chaos to regulate and recharge.
Our tipi offers that refuge. It creates a low-stimulation sanctuary that helps children relax and lower their stress immediately. The space provides security without confinement, a critical distinction for anxious or sensory-sensitive children.
What makes it work:
- Heavy cotton canvas:
Transforms harsh sunlight into a warm, golden glow that’s gentle on the eyes and calming to the nervous system. - Sound dampening:
Thick fabric softens outside noise and reduces echoes, creating an acoustic environment where children can focus and breathe. - Open top design:
Look up to see sky and trees. Children stay connected to the outdoors while remaining sheltered. The best of both worlds. - Enveloping shape:
Round walls feel like a protective embrace. This geometry naturally lowers anxiety and creates an instinctive sense of safety.
Who benefits most:
- Schools and educational settings:
Provides essential sensory breaks during the school day - Children with SEN or sensory processing differences:
Offers controlled, predictable sensory input - Forest schools and outdoor programs:
Creates a defined home base in nature - Anyone seeking calm:
Perfect for reading, reflection, or simply being still
Breaking the square: How shape influences learning
Traditional classrooms create hierarchy. There’s a front and a back, a teacher’s space and student space. A tipi is different. It’s egalitarian.
When children sit in a circle inside the tent, everyone occupies a position of equal importance. No one dominates. No one hides.
This physical arrangement subtly shifts social dynamics:
- Eye contact becomes natural rather than forced
- Conversations flow more democratically
- Conflict resolution happens more organically because there are no corners to retreat into
- The upward sweep of the poles draws the eye skyward, expanding children’s sense of space and possibility
A BIGHEAD tipi isn’t merely a plaything. It’s a functional outdoor classroom. We recommend it for educational settings because it offers a clearly defined “third space”: neither a formal classroom nor an open playground, but something distinct and valuable.

Practical applications
Usage scenarios:
- The Reading nook:
The cone shape focuses sound naturally. A teacher reading from the center can be heard clearly without raising their voice, while the canvas blocks wind and distracting noise from outside. - Conflict resolution:
The neutral, circular space is ideal for circle time or peer mediation. The shape itself encourages fairness and equal participation. - Nature immersion:
Perfect for forest schools. It provides shelter from sudden weather without forcing the class back inside the main building, keeping children connected to the outdoor learning environment. - Controlled risk (Fire Safety):
For older students, the tipi is the only tent design that can safely accommodate a supervised fire. Learning to manage a small fire teaches responsibility, applied physics, and practical safety skills.
Create a space where children can breathe, reset, and connect. Both with nature and with each other.
The BIGHEAD school edition teepee
Schools need equipment that works reliably, day after day, in all weather conditions. Standard historical replicas can leak if not pitched perfectly and often require specialist knowledge to maintain. That’s not practical for busy school.

We’ve refined the traditional tipi tent design specifically for educational settings. The School Edition retains the authentic aesthetic that makes tipis so appealing, but integrates modern engineering solutions that ensure weather resistance, durability, and minimal maintenance.
Built for Real-World School Use
This is not a replica, it is an evolution. We have adapted the traditional design to meet the demands of year-round outdoor education.
- Weather-resistant construction keeps the interior dry, even during prolonged rain
- Durable materials withstand daily use by multiple groups
- Low-maintenance design requires no specialist knowledge to operate
- Safety-tested for educational environments
- Long service life ensures reliable use over many years
- Year-round use, no need to dismantle the structure in winter
Key technical attributes:
- Climate Control: OZAN System
Ventilation and temperature regulation are managed by the internal inner curtain, known as the Ozan. It allows excess heat to escape, preventing a greenhouse effect inside the tipi.- The air channel:
The Ozan creates an air channel between the outer canvas and the interior living space. - Summer cooling:
In warm weather, this air channel allows the structure to “breathe.” Hot air naturally rises through the channel and is vented, helping to maintain a cooler interior. - Winter protection:
In colder months, the inner inner curtain acts as a wind barrier, preventing drafts and reducing condensation buildup, keeping the interior dry and comfortable.
- The air channel:
- The weather-proof roof (no chimney):
Traditional tipis feature open smoke flaps designed for indoor fires. In educational settings, where open fires are rarely used, we have reengineered the apex to prioritise weather protection over smoke ventilation.- Covered ventilation:
The open smoke hole is replaced with a permanently covered roof vent. - Moisture management:
This system allows warm, stale air to escape while preventing rain ingress. - Zero adjustments:
No manual adjustment is required. Teachers do not need to manage flaps as conditions change. The fixed cover provides continuous protection from rainfall, ensuring the space remains dry and usable even during heavy rain.
- Covered ventilation:
- Fabric choices: Balancing durability and feel:
We offer two distinct high-performance fabrics. Both are engineered for longevity, but they offer different features.- Option A: 650 g/m² Premium Canvas (The “All-Weather” Choice)
- Year-Round resilience:
This is our most robust option. It allows the tipi to remain standing 12 months a year, regardless of snow, heavy rain, or scorching heat. - Hygiene & maintenance:
The material is 100% resistant to mould, algae, and ingrained dirt. It is easily wiped clean. - Texture:
Unlike standard industrial tarpaulins, this specific material is manufactured to be pleasant to the touch, it retains the cool, texture finish characteristic of natural materials.
- Year-Round resilience:
- Option B: PolyTCP™ 470 g/m² (The “Natural” Choice)
- Aesthetic appeal:
This 100% polyester fabric is designed for those who prioritise the sensory experience. It feels warmer and more “textile” to the touch, avoiding the colder, plastic feel of PVC. - Protection:
It is treated to resist mould, algae, and bird droppings. - Maintenance note:
While durable, PolyTCP™ requires slightly more care than PVC to maintain its lifespan. It is the ideal choice for schools that prioritise a natural atmosphere over absolute minimal maintenance.
- Aesthetic appeal:
- Option A: 650 g/m² Premium Canvas (The “All-Weather” Choice)
- Strong Wooden Frame:
For our school version, we have ensured maximum stability.- Wooden profile:
We use strong, solid timber. - Safety:
This provides superior structural strength compared to standard round poles, especially under heavy loads from snow or strong wind. Safety is the top priority.
- Wooden profile:
- We do not use tent pegs:
We do not use traditional pegs for securing the canvas. Instead, we use a special fastening system designed to be child-safe, highly durable, and resistant to damage, even under the curiosity and active use of children.
